Whereas, the safety of children is every parent, guardian and educator's desire and responsibility, therefore the First Annual Kids Safety Fair takes place on the 6th of April 2008 at the Pavilion in the City of Kenner; and

Whereas, the statistics on children being sexually assaulted or abducted in the United States is alarming; whereby, children have the right to know how to defend themselves against predators, and to be aware of the dangers they face and to be able to take the preventive measures from becoming a victim; and

Whereas, parents seeking information on how to keep their children safe will be educated at this safety fair, hosted by the Square & Compass Lodge #417 and its team of many sponsors; and

Whereas, supporting this event, the Kenner Police Department will discuss safety issues and provide demonstrations in Fingerprinting and K-9 Police Dogs; the Kenner Fire Department will teach fire safety with the Smoke House; the FBI will speak on the dangers of the internet; and the United States Naval Band will preform patriotic music all the while free food and drink are consumed and the drawing of prizes take place; and

Whereas, special thanks are given to the host, the Square & Compass Lodge #417, and its team of sponsors ~ the Kenner Police and Police and Fire Departments, New Orleans Saints and Zephyrs , WWL-TV, Entercom, Menagerie Products, Cajun Distributors, NorthWest Mutual, Coca-Cola, WalMart, Sports Academy, Rouse's, Carmine's Retaurant, Lucky Dog, Eastern Star and High 12 Club, Kentwood Water, Starbucks, Tulane Medical Center, East Jefferson General Hospital, Chateau Veterinary Hospital, Mackie Shilstone, The Shriners and the NRA ~ who, by participating, are ensuring that our children have the necessary information, education and the proper tools to ensure their safety.

Now therefore, I, Edmond J. Muniz, Mayor of Kenner, Louisiana, by the authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim April 6, 2008 as

First Annual Kids Safety Fair Day

and commend the Square & Compass Lodge #417 and all those who have supported this very worthwhile and ongoing effort for the safety of the children in Kenner and donations but for their tireless effort in keeping safety first.
